Miriam, the prophet, dances with her tambourine. Behind her follow women dancing with tambourines in celebration. I was moved by the image of a prophet, who happens to be the sister of Moses, dancing to her own music and rhythm, followed by throngs of others dancing and dancing along the pathways of history. Sometimes the call to dance is a prophetic call, calling us to move our bodies with grace to the deeper music of love and justice; sometimes it is the outward expression of exuberance and awe rippling through the bodies and extending outward to partners everywhere.
